We believe that access to reliable information is fundamental to informed citizenship, accountable institutions and sustainable development. Through evidence-based research, verification and responsible use of technology, we seek to help citizens, institutions, journalists, researchers and communities better understand the information shaping public discourse.

What We Do

Isabi FactCheck Africa investigates and verifies claims, analyzes emerging information threats and produces public-interest reports across a range of issues affecting Africa.

Our core areas of work include:

Fact-Checking & Misinformation

We investigate claims circulating through social media, online platforms, traditional media and other information channels. Our fact-checking process focuses on identifying credible evidence, consulting authoritative sources and presenting our findings transparently.

Electoral Transparency

We monitor and analyze information relating to elections, electoral processes and public participation. Our work includes election-related fact-checking, misinformation monitoring, electoral transparency reporting and analysis of emerging information threats during electoral periods.

AI Governance & Digital Accountability

Artificial intelligence is transforming how information is created, distributed and consumed. We examine issues surrounding AI governance, responsible AI, synthetic media, deepfakes, algorithmic accountability and AI-enabled misinformation.

Governance & Accountability

We investigate claims and public information relating to governance, public institutions, public expenditure, policies and accountability. Our work seeks to improve access to verifiable information and encourage evidence-based public discourse.

Climate & Environmental Reporting

We report and conduct research on climate change, environmental issues, illegal mining, environmental degradation and climate-related misinformation, with particular attention to their effects on communities across Africa.

Crisis & Conflict Situational Analysis

We provide evidence-based situational analysis on crises, conflicts and emerging events across Africa. Our work seeks to provide reliable context and help audiences distinguish verified information from speculation and misinformation during rapidly developing situations.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide AI-enabled, timely, transparent and evidence-based information that helps individuals and institutions make informed decisions and better understand issues affecting society.

We are committed to strengthening information integrity while promoting accountability, social equity and sustainable development across Africa.

Our Vision

We envision an Africa where citizens have access to reliable and verifiable information, public institutions are accountable, and technology is used responsibly to strengthen—not undermine—the public’s ability to understand reality.

Our Core Values

We are committed to accuracy, honesty, transparency and ethical journalism in everything we do.

Independence

Our editorial work is guided by evidence and established methodology rather than political, financial or social pressure.

Public Interest

Our work is designed to contribute to informed public discourse, accountability and the well-being of communities across Africa.

Our Approach

At Isabi FactCheck Africa, we recognize that fact-checking is more than determining whether a statement is true or false.

Understanding information requires examining its source, context, evidence, timing, distribution and potential impact.

Our researchers therefore work to:

  • Identify claims and information requiring verification.
  • Trace claims to their original sources where possible.
  • Consult authoritative documents, datasets and other credible evidence.
  • Compare claims against available facts and historical context.
  • Use appropriate digital and technological verification tools.
  • Clearly distinguish verified information from allegations, opinions and unverified claims.
  • Subject published work to editorial review.
  • Update or correct published material when credible new evidence becomes available.

Our Use of Artificial Intelligence

Technology is an important part of our work.

We use artificial intelligence and other digital tools where they can responsibly assist our researchers and analysts with tasks such as information discovery, document analysis, transcription, translation, classification, data analysis and the examination of potentially manipulated media.

However, AI-generated output is not automatically treated as verified information.

Our editorial processes require human review and evidence-based verification before findings are published. AI is used as a research and analytical aid; it does not replace editorial judgment, source verification or accountability.

We are also committed to examining the societal implications of artificial intelligence, including deepfakes, synthetic media, automated misinformation, algorithmic accountability and digital rights.

Independence & Editorial Integrity

Isabi FactCheck Africa is committed to maintaining the independence and integrity of its editorial work.

Our fact-checks and research reports are based on evidence and documented sources. Editorial decisions should not be determined by political affiliation, commercial interests, personal relationships or external pressure.

Where appropriate, we disclose relevant sources, methodology, corrections and potential conflicts of interest so that our audiences can better understand how our work was produced.

We also recognize that evidence can change. When credible new information materially affects a published report, we may update the report and clearly identify significant corrections or changes.

Our Commitment to the Public

Misinformation can affect elections, public health, security, communities, markets, the environment and public trust.

Our responsibility is therefore not simply to publish information, but to help people understand information in context.

We aim to produce work that is:

Evidence-based.
Transparent.
Accessible.
Timely.
Responsible.
Independent.

We encourage our readers to question information, examine evidence and seek reliable sources before accepting or sharing claims.
